In the prevailing trend in economic theory and practice, the main role of improving the economy’s major economic aggregates reserves for economic policy has been assigned to economic policy. Improvement of these aggregates thus becomes an end in and of itself and makes even more important aspects for persons’ well-being and the sustainability of life secondary. In contrast to this orthodox view of the economy, this paper delves into an ensemble of economic policy from the PCD perspective, placing life and care for humans and the planet at the heart of analysis. Furthermore, the it aims to contribute to building a policy coherence for development index being developed by the Plataforma 2015 y más. To this end do so, it evaluates three specific policies, tax, finance and trade, in order to identify the minimum essential aspects that must be included in the index to measure these policies’ coherence. The paper concludes that the vision provided by the PCD vision has tremendous potential to reorient these policies and enhance their ability to tackle global development challenges.
