Since the end of 2016, the Spanish NGO Coordinator has taken the compromise to follow the CPDI, in order to continue its academic development –in collaboration with REEDES– and its use as a tool for political influence and increase awareness.
The Coordinator is made up of 76 non-government organizations that work in the sector of development cooperation and humanitarian aid and 17 NGDO Autonomic Coordinators which, at the same time, are made up of more than 400 organizations. We are in 110 countries pursuing development and humanitarian action projects, and in Spain where we do an important awareness and political influence work, also in our closest environment.
The PCDI is the outcome of ambitious applied research initiated by the Plataforma 2015 y más and conducted by a team of experts over a five-year period. The research reflects the platform’s firm belief not only in the transformational potential that the notion of policy coherence for development has had in recent years in redefining public policy, but also in its potential for confronting global challenges such as combatting poverty, inequality, and climate change and the loss of biodiversity, and for furthering justice, human rights and equality.
The PCDI was devised as a reliable alternative to evaluate, scrutinise and transform public policy, nationally and internationally, in order to move towards a fairer, more sustainable and equitable governance model. A multi-disciplinary team of men and women researchers including sociologists, economists, political scientists and communicators participated in building the index together with a team of experts in statistics, computer science, graphic design and communications.
The PCDI initiative was promoted by the following organizations: Fundación Alianza por la Solidaridad – Fundación Mundubat/Mundubat Fundazioa – Instituto Sindical de Cooperación al Desarrollo (ISCOD) – Fundación Paz y Solidaridad Serafín Aliaga Comisiones Obreras – Fundación IEPALA – Economists without Borders – Comisión Española de Ayuda al Refugiado (CEAR) – Paz con Dignidad – AIETI – Movimiento por la paz (MPDL)
